NYB Blok 3

I think I am beginning to understand the idea of paper piecing. My NYB block 3 (by Megan from Canoe Ridge Creations) came out great. But, I  must also say thank you to those who advised me after my last blog entry. Your suggestions helped a lot!

After my success, I decided to redo the previous block. This time I am satisfied with the result. I removed the orange and substituted it with yellow. I also changed the silver and pink around. This is still a busy block, but this time I like it.

And here they are together...this is going to be a very busy quilt :)

We took a lovely drive this past weekend. We passed through Baie du Cap, amongst others. I must admit that I have been to this village a few times, but this is the first time that I spotted their post office! It is so small (and cute) that it is no wonder I missed it the previous times. Our post office is small (two counters, a few post boxes and a storage room), but this one seems even smaller!

Nou-ja, eers weer tyd vir werk. Groete!

Well, time for work again. Regards!

I wondered if I would keep my "Beginner's Luck", but alas, I didn't. The second blok (from Sara at Sew Sweetness) in the New York Beauty Quilt along is finished, but I am not completely satisfied. Still, this is a learning experience, and I will take it as such.

Firstly, one side of the block is skew. Secondly, my colour scheme is too busy and the contrast isn't showing well. Thirdly, the point for the inner circle is blunt, because I placed the fabric wrong and only realised it when it was too late. Lastly, if I place the two finished blocks (Block 0 and now Block 5) next to each other, the quarter circles' seams don't match up. I am not sure if it should be like that, or if I did something horribly wrong.

Despite this, I still enjoyed making the block, and is looking forward to the rest of the project. Photo's then of this block's assembly:

Hopelik sal ek binne-kort daarmee begin.

Another project I got my fingers in to is the Raggedy quilt. At last I finished the basting (can't believe it took me so long!!!) and the quilting patterns are drawn on the quilt. I also bought some multi-coloured thread for the quilting. Hopefully I will be able to start with that soon.

This is still my favourite quilt thus far, and I will be very happy when it is finished. Is there any of you who is working on a quilt and can't wait for it to be finished? 'till later!

NYB blok 1

I  worked up some courage and grabbed the bull by the horns. My first attempt at the NYB block was successful! I don't have something to compare it with, so I hope it is right...it looks right to me...I will admit however, that this is one of the most difficult sewing projects I have done, but it is definitely worthwhile! After a few strange noises coming from my room, a lot of concentration and just as much luck, the block started to take shape, and the end result is satisfying. This is also of course my first project with curves in the blocks. All my other projects (except for appliqué) were with straight lines. I will let the photos speek for themselves:

The silver and pink fabrics is my primary fabrics and will be used throughout the the quilt. The blue and yellow part (what is it called - rays, comb, triangles?) will be of different kinds of fabrics/colours.

Now I can breath again and make some dinner for Hubby. Until later!

Earlier this week, I received a notice that a parcel was waiting for my at Customs in Port Louis. On Saturday, Hubby and me decided to take the opportunity for an outing, and went to fetch the parcel in Port Louis. I did not however, think this would be waiting for me...

Binne-in was die volgende:

Inside were the following:

10 meter se watteersel; en

10 meter batting; and

...hierdie lieflike materiale.

...these lovely fabrics. They are for one of the projects planned for this year. These will be used in the quilt for my youngest brother. I have the following pattern in mind:

The lighter shade of orange and yellow will come from my stash.

I am having a bit of a problem. Mother Nature is against me! Each year it is the same story, and each year Nature is getting more creative. This year is the worst: the birds decided to build their nests in our house. They are very cute, but I don't think it is the best idea to build nests in our bathroom window, or in the curtains:

Like I said, they are cute...but they can't build there! We will see who wins...

Tot later! / Until later!
