This morning, after dropping the kids at school, Hubby and I went to Port Louis for a task that everybody dreads - transfer of ownership of my new car.
Our first queue was at the Registrar. There we waited for +- 30min before we could submit the documentation and another 30min for it to be processed.
Ons tweede wagpunt was by die versekering.
The second queue was at the insurers. Here the waiting period and the issue of the insurance took us 45min.
Our 3rd, longest and final queue was at the National Transport Authority, where we waited 1 and a half hours for the final transfer of ownership and licensing to take place.
We waited our lives away today, but the paperwork is done and we can take the car on the road...

Finally, I have something to blog about! There is nothing better than the feeling of achievement when you finish a project.
Last year I started making new curtains for the bedrooms. The reason was that it gets unbelievably hot here in the summer and to use the air conditioners the whole time just emptied our pockets. So I decided to make curtains with blackout, hoping that I can block some of the direct sunlight and heat out of the rooms during the summer days.
I refer back to this blog post, where I made the kids' room curtains.
Shortly thereafter, I managed to complete the curtains for the hallway, leading to the bedrooms, and that is where it ended.
Now that the summer is on its way, I considered finishing the other room's curtains. Oh boy, it is so nice to have a project completed!
Hoe berei julle voor vir somer? Tot later.
How do you prepare for summer? Until later.

Bokant is klaar
In between the school holidays, New Year celebrations and cyclones, I managed to do some work on the blue quilt, bit by bit. Yesterday I added the border and now I can finally show you the quilt-in-progress.
This is after I pieced the triangles together and placed everything on the floor for the layout. It took me a long time to piece everything together, because I was not happy with the direction of the "fish" fabric. Originally I wanted the direction of the fish and the sea grass to be the same within a triangle, but then I went and sewed and cut two triangles the wrong way, which messed up everything. I had limited fabric, so I couldn't just cut two more triangles. After some time, and asking may people for advice, we decided to ignore the direction of the fabric and just sew things "randomly" together.
I had just as much difficulty with the border. I was 20cm short on fabric for designing the border as I originally wanted. I had to make the strips thinner and later went into decimal numbers to be sure the border was the right width. Wow, what a brain teaser! None the less, the strips were cut - a few at a time since I wasn't in the mood for spending a lot more time on them, especially after all the math LOL - and soon the border was finished.
This is then the product of a lot of thinking...It needs a final ironing before I get the batting and backing from my stash and start on the basting.
I will admit, the challenges with this quilt was fun, but now I need something more simple to do.
Until later!

Talipot
A short while ago we went as a family to the Pamplemousses Gardens.
We went specifically to see a certain special tree.

We went to see the Talipot. It is a tree that takes a long time to reach maturity and then only blooms once before it dies. The result is a majestic flower show!
