In between the school holidays, New Year celebrations and cyclones, I managed to do some work on the blue quilt, bit by bit. Yesterday I added the border and now I can finally show you the quilt-in-progress.
This is after I pieced the triangles together and placed everything on the floor for the layout. It took me a long time to piece everything together, because I was not happy with the direction of the "fish" fabric. Originally I wanted the direction of the fish and the sea grass to be the same within a triangle, but then I went and sewed and cut two triangles the wrong way, which messed up everything. I had limited fabric, so I couldn't just cut two more triangles. After some time, and asking may people for advice, we decided to ignore the direction of the fabric and just sew things "randomly" together.
I had just as much difficulty with the border. I was 20cm short on fabric for designing the border as I originally wanted. I had to make the strips thinner and later went into decimal numbers to be sure the border was the right width. Wow, what a brain teaser! None the less, the strips were cut - a few at a time since I wasn't in the mood for spending a lot more time on them, especially after all the math LOL - and soon the border was finished.
This is then the product of a lot of thinking...It needs a final ironing before I get the batting and backing from my stash and start on the basting.
I will admit, the challenges with this quilt was fun, but now I need something more simple to do.
Until later!
