Verrassings!

Here in Mauritius, luck can catch you in the strangest of ways. Hubby was paging through the classifieds one evening and saw an advert that grabbed my attention like a magnet. Someone was selling a Butterfly sewing machine WITH its treadle table. After a few messages, it was agreed that I will buy the set.

The advert stated that it was situated in Bel Air, in the South. So we checked on the map and went our merry way. When we reached our destination, it was the wrong Bel Air (Grand Bel Air) and we discovered there was another Bel Air (Bel Air Riviere Seche) in the West. So we went there to collect the machine and table. The map calculated that it should have been an almost 3 hour drive. We drove for 4 hours and we had to stop to get something to eat, which wasn't planned. Our total trip there and back was 5 hours long, but it was worth it!

When we reached Bel Air Riviere Seche, we were requested to wait for the seller at the old post office. We searched a while for the building, but found it eventually...Needless to say it was not what we expected.

Here is what we brought back home with us:

The machine is working, but it needs some tlc. According to the owner, it was bought in 2005, and will you believe, it is electric! The decorations on the machine are very beautiful and I am sure that after some "love" it will look even better. The table is missing a extension table and the treadle cable is missing, but that we can add as necessary.

Sommige van julle sal onthou dat ek 'n paar jaar terug 'n soortgelyke masjien as 'n geskenk by Manlief gekry het. Hier is die blog inskrywing daarvoor.

Some of you will remember that I got a similar machine as a gift from Hubby, some years ago. Here is that blog entry.

Wel, hoe het julle jul naweek spandeer?

Well, how did you spend your weekend?
