In stead of completing existing projects (catching up of the NYB Quilt Along and Blogger's BOM), I started a new project. This project is on my list, so I am not feeling too guilty :)

I haven't made one stitch yet, but I can already see a few phases through which a quilt must go:

1.  Voorbereiding (beplanning, aankope en snywerk) / Preparation (planning, purchasing and cutting)

This phase is the start of everything. You dream up some lovely patterns and colour schemes, buy the correct (in other words "a lot") amount of fabric and start cutting.

2. Legkaart bou / Building the Puzzle

Now you group and place the fabric, just as you had it in your wonderful dream...and then realize something is not quite right...

O wel, daar gaan my "nuwer wetse" idees.

In my wonderful dream, I saw the colours flow from light to dark. But in reality, the method I chose resulted in the colours being thrown at each other! Well, so much for "new school" ideas.

3. Regstellings / Adjustments

The wonderful dream is now reality and you are starting to think straight. All the little mistakes are quickly repaired and the quilt looks much better. But that is not all. I thought a bit further...the person for whom I am making this quilt, is nearly 2 meters tall. Although the quilt is getting a broad border, I thought it a better idea to make enlarge the focal point...

Na die regstellings / After the adjustments

Bietjie ekstra bygesit / Additions

Hoera!

Nou is ek eers moeg met lappies gespeel. Moet seker begin met aandete...Tot later!

By adding the extra blocks, I used the fabric that I would otherwise have wasted (by removing them with the adjustments). Thus, I saved fabric!

This is of course only the beginning, but it is the most important part of the quilt's formation. Now I can move in behind the sewing machine and start sewing these pieces together.Yippee!

Now I am done playing with fabrics. I suppose I need to get dinner started...Until later!

Uiteindelik klaar!

I think I spoke enough about this quilt the last two years, so I will just show you the photo of the finished product...

Klein terugslag

This weekend I decided to push all my other projects aside and finish my Raggedy quilt. After 2 years in progress, I thought it is time to finish it and be prepared for Winter. The winter in Mauritius isn't really cold, but cold enough for me to sit underneath a blanket and read or watch tv.

The quilting is finished and now it is in the  final touches stage. But before I got to this stage, I had a "two steps forward, one step back" situation. I was so fired up to finish this quilt, that I did not always concentrate on what I was doing. The end result...

... a corner of the quilt folded underneath the part I was working on, and I quilting everything together. Luckily I was only halfway with this block, and the ripping didn't take too long. Needless to say, I paid more attention to what I was doing afterwards :) I hope to have this quilt finished within the next two weeks.

Regarding our nest building friends: they have been quiet for a while. We noticed that when we close the doors at night, they can't get to the curtains and windowsills early in the morning to build. This worked very well, and soon they picked another place to build their nests. We had a lot of rain lately and I think their nest got damaged because they are back. Now, instead of just building in the mornings, they are building throughout the day and any chance they can get. My poor curtains and floor is covered in twigs and grasses. When I close the doors, I die from the heat; when I keep them open, the birds try to build their nest...what a conundrum!

Tot later! / Until later!

Soveel so dat ek begin telling verloor oor waar ek is in elke projek.

Hierdie week se NYB is van Kati by from the blue chair.

I must admit that the NYB and BOM quilt along is keeping me busy! So much so that I am starting to loose count on where I am in each project. Luckily I have my previous blog entries to fall back on :)

This weeks NYB is from Kati over at from the blue chair. It seems to me that, the bigger the contrast in the block, the better the presentation. I concentrated so much on the pattern and stitching, that I completely forgot to take pictures of the progress.

Here are all the completed blocks thus far

Hierdie maand se Blogger's BOM is van Allison Harris by cluck cluck sew.

After all the concentration on the NYB block, the next Blogger's BOM block was a breeze! And just as well, because I would not have been able to handle another difficult block.

This months Blogeer's BOM is from Allison Harris at cluck cluck sew.

I am also still working happily on my Raggedy quilt. It is about a third done. If I get the necessary time, I can finish this one before winter! And this time I intend to stick to that goal, since I said the same thing last year, and the quilt is still not done...

Is there any goals you are strictly working towards? Regards for now!
